Abstract of the Supervised thesis

Seven (07) BSc Engg. theses have been supervised.

1. Thesis “Combinatorial Computer Networking and Data Communication for Several Cases in Bangladesh and Possible Design Issues” concerns as following:

“This thesis focuses on the several design issues of computer networks in perspective of Bangladesh and attempts to improve the understanding on this subject by classifying and evaluating the current network architecture design approaches. It appears that these approaches derive solution abstractions basically from the requirement specifications and the management of design alternatives is an implicit process. This causes a number of problems such as the difficulty in network design, difficulty in leveraging the architecture boundaries and poor semantics of the architectural components. To grasp the essence of different computer networks and understand its inherent problems, this thesis provides a thorough and critical analysis of different types of networks from a broad perspective.

It presented from the very basic of computer networking to the various implementations of both wired and wireless networks. Various standards and interfaces of networking, network security, a range of data communication routine, mobile communication, radio link and advance wireless networking was the leading apprehension. It also came across at some typical cases of network designs, designed and solved the problems of those cases and therefore investigated the likelihood of developing few modern network infrastructures. This is an exploration into the use of computer networks from the standpoint of Bangladesh. Finally the future of networking with some modern and cutting edge networking technologies also with their possible accomplishment in stance of Bangladesh has been discussed.”

2. Thesis “ERP for the Group of Companies” concerns as following:

“This thesis explores the aspect of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) in details for a group of companies. Architecture of ERP is described in some detailed steps. At first, the existing system for different departments is analyzed. Reviewing the system from each point of view possible does this analysis. Then the related software is evaluated. The evaluation process is always done with the target of doing a successful integration. Finding various dissimilarities, the software architecture is modified. Introducing some new intermediate tables and many new entries completes modification. These tables are required for integration. The modified design of the databases for all departments redesigned in respect of ERP is discussed. Relationships among various tables of different sites departments are structured using necessary primary and foreign keys. Networking solution for interconnecting different sites of a group of companies is also discussed. Various network connection facilities using different media and system is formatted in terms of ERP. Complete tables for each database are included. Integration of individual software is made. Advantages of ERP along with its disadvantages are analyzed thoroughly, which represents the need of ERP for a group of companies under the global economical perspective. Implementation of ERP with the existing technical facilities is researched considering different factors. Design for making an ERP is provided for future research and implementation. Using the provided design, the proposed ERP can be implemented very easily. The proposed ERP is designed considering the needs of group of companies in general.”

3. Thesis “Office Automation Architecture” concerns as following:

“This thesis is an endeavor to discuss office automation in all its aspects in some detail. Due importance has been given to technical sides of it. The tools used in office automation have been identified and a standard presentation on some of the useful tools has been made along with setup and architecture. The important features of MS Exchange Server and MS Outlook are discussed in detail. Lotus Notes has also been discussed in the thesis in consideration of the fact that it is now in vogue in the developed countries. Emphasis was also given on Lotus Notes because it can be programmed and the user can customize the mail-server according to need. Due consideration was given to discuss about extraordinary featured protocols like SMTP, HTTP have also been presented here. It may be mentioned here that by programming protocols user(s) can easily customize their mail-server according to need.”

4.  Thesis “Developing Email Software for the file/text Transfer and Receive, and Database access using JDBC” concerns as following:

“In this thesis, an effective and efficient email software architecture has been considered. An easy protocol was developed for Transferring and Receiving files. An advancement was done by attaching a database and further enhanced with JAVA based connectivity.”

5.  Thesis “Developing E-Commerce for the local Market without using Credit Card” concerns as following:

“In the developing countries, it is very tedious to fit various modern things, say, like E-Commerce. If the overall infrastructure was sound, it could be fitted easily. However, a positive matter is, an improved locality is seldom found within the developing countries. So, with several modifications the locality may be further improved to implement the modern concept. The thesis modified the network infrastructure of a local market with alternate authentication protocol and helps develop and fit the E-commerce.”

6.  Thesis “Efficient Traffic Signal Controlling for Dhaka” concerns as following:

“This thesis considered the effective traffic signal controlling with several constraints, specially under lower budget. Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh and one of the most crowed cities of the world. Bangladesh is a developing country and increasing traffic and lower budget make it almost impossible for drastic infrastructure change. As an alternate, the design in the thesis is based on a low cost traffic signal controlling networking. Based on the queuing theory and intuitive logic the effective traffic signal controlling system has been designed under budget constraint.”

7.  Thesis “Network of Bangladesh and Possible Improvements” concerns as following:

“The thesis explores the existing Network of a developing countries. The Network includes the Internet Service Provider (ISP), Internet, Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Microwave Communication, Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN), and Public Switch Data Network (PSDN). With the target of nation wide low cost integration several alternate design has been proposed. Simple but effective backbone was considered. Countrywide network access load added with future load has been considered. Possible adoption of ATM technology, IPV6 has been designed for future extension.”
